| The
Jamestown Discovery Trail is the most attractive approach to Jamestown and the Williamsburg
Area - Avoid the traffic on Interstate 64. The Jamestown
Discovery Trail begins at the junction of Interstate 295 and Virginia
Route 5 in the Varina area of Henrico County. A leisurely drive along Virginia's Route 5 Scenic Byway, past cultivated fields and in the shade of Tidewater woodlands, will transport you back through the twentieth, nineteenth, eighteenth and seventeenth centuries before your arrival to 1607 in Jamestown. You will pass grand colonial mansions, the sites of Indian settlements, quaint churches, a colonial courthouse, country stores, historic plantations, cross-road settlements, African-American landmarks, presidential homes, Civil War battlefields and active farms. The legacy of 1607, four hundred years of history, is yours to discover and experience along this most beautiful and most educational approach to Jamestown - on The Jamestown Discovery Trail - through Henrico, Charles City and James City counties. |
